I'll start off with the positive. In spite of the relative predictability and shallowness, I find that Mr. Jenkins does keep my interest, at least for the first few books. The action and the writing taper off after the first 4 books and by book 10 it's difficult to force your way any further. If one ignores the anti-Catholic and anti-nonChristian bias, there is actually a little bit of good story in there. Even the cliffhangers are extremely unexciting by book 9. They really should have done the entire storyline in 6 or fewer books. Plus another reviewers comment about margins is valid. There is an unncecssary amount of left and right margin, making these books thicker than their content would require. Pathetic... Theologically, I should point out that the Rapture is not a belief supported by most Christians. Certainly this 'doctrine' is rejected by Catholic and Orthodox believers as well as many if not all mainline Protestants. Read The Rapture Trap by Paul Thigpen (sp?) for an explanation of why such a literal interpretation is not consistent with the rest of scripture. LaHaye's work also shows a surprising lack of kinowledge about scripture in general and the writing style of prophetic works. It makes for an interesting story, but please don't label this as "Christian fiction" because it gives the wrong impression of Christian beliefs and embarasses most of us. It is blatantly offensive to Catholics and Orthodox (at least to those who understand their faith). BTW, it is NOT the beilef of Christians that all non-Christians will go to Hell. That is a frequent misunderstanding. Such a belief is un-Christian and contrary to Biblical teaching. Do not confuse LaHaye's beliefs with Christian beliefs...

doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires; and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will turn aside to myths." 2 Timothy 4:3-4
This verse was written by Paul almost 2000 years ago to warn the Christians to guard their hearts from false teachings that will arise from among the Church. - "and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking preserve things, to draw away their disciples after them." - Acts 20:30-31
As a servant of the Lord, I feel strongly compelled by His Spirit to warn my fellow Christians of the false doctrine being taught by Tim LaHaye. This man and his partner are being used by Satan himself to decieve millions of Christians across the nation concerning the truth and the end times of this earth, and this is making me sick. Tell me why Tim LaHaye, who has never studied theological doctrine or mastered the Bible's teachings, has sold millions upon millions of books regarding prophecy. Prophecy, a subject which has been revered and studied intentisively by theological scholars and Christians alike since the time of Christ. The verse that I started with clearly tells us why. If Tim LaHaye really loves God, than he would respect His Holy Word including God's sacred prophecies. But instead of writing a book strictly on the Holy prophecies of God to bring Him the glory, Tim chooses to envelop God's sacred prophecies with his fictitious novels known as the Left Behind Series. Now what were his motives for doing this? To interpret the scriptures correctly, or to sell millions of novels and receive the wealth and fame for himself? For those of you who read his novels, did you desire to truly know what the Bible says concerning prophecies or did you enjoy having your ears "tickled" by his fanciful writing. "but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires."
In the past year, a man completed devoted to God, has taken up the monumental task of writing a new book to help clear the confusion behind the modern view of Biblical prophecies. The book is called End Time Delusions by Steve Wohlberg, and unfortunaley, it is directed at refuting many of the false teachings endorsed by the Left Behind novels. Mr. Wohlberg has been earnestly studying Biblical prophecies for the past 25 years. Everything he comments on is strongly supported by the scriptures and he encourages every reader to evaluate the Bible before establishing an opinion. The book is concise (220 pages), uses simple language, and is jam-packed with years upon years of extensive research. For the person that leads a busy lifestyle, and doesn't have the time to tackle an 800 page theological book, this book is for you.
May the Lord be with you as you continue to search the scriptures for the truth. "For the truth will set you free!"
Rating - How very sad
The Left Behind series is an unfortunate symptom of hubris running amuck.
Two questions for you Christians who believe that everyone except you are damned: Do you actually think if Jesus returned to earth, he'd damn everyone who didn't accept him as God's only son? Why do you insist on interpreting the Bible to say that -- when other, more Christ-like interpretations are possible?
But when people like me say things like this you immediately go to Biblical judgment, don't you? It's easier to close your mind than open yourself to the message Jesus tried to spread: Patience, understanding, forgiveness, and tolerance.
This series goes to show that fear and ignorance sell.
Rating - BOOK NINE: DESECRATION
At long last, the Antichrist takes the very throne of God and makes a gory mockery of the Temple of the Jews. Those who finally see Carpathia's diabolical nature for what it is cannot bring themselves to follow him any longer--but for those who already have the mark of loyalty, it's far too late. God's wrath begins to be poured out on an evil world in earnest, first in the form of excrutiating boils on all unbelievers and then the oceans of the world are turned to blood. An enraged Carpathia launches an all-out offensive against the followers of Tsion Ben-Judah and Chaim Rosenzweig, and the Tribulation Force must decide if it will fight...or die. Perhaps the most exciting book in the series to this point, DESECRATION piles one thrilling plot point on top of the next, making for a read that absolutely flies past. Interesting subplots involve Hattie Durham, who suddenly steps *very* much out of character, and teenage genius Chang, the only person in the world with BOTH marks. Chloe Williams goes out on a risky limb, and it appears that the Trib Force's invisibility is finally waning. Like most of the other books in this series, this one climaxes with a major cliffhanger, though a decidedly grimmer one than has come before. Fans of the saga will absolutely LOVE this entry, and I really can't help but wonder why those who profess to hate the whole story continue to "torture" themselves by reading each and every book! Go figure. Greatly enjoyable and an irresistible lead-in to THE REMNANT (Book Ten), DESERECATION is certainly recommended.
