Customer Reviews for: The Message: The Bible In Comtemporary Language, Large Print Numbered Edition

Rating 5 out of 5 - It's Never Too Late
Finally, at the age of 64, I am reading the Bible, thanks to this translation. I've started before, and put it aside. This time, and this version, IT'S A KEEPER!

Rating 5 out of 5 - FINALLY a bible in 'plain english'!
I've been waiting for a bible to be released like this my whole life and FINALLY it is here!

NOW I can't wait to read The Message from cover to cover. From the moment I saw in a bookstore, I could not put it down....I'm getting this large print leather-bound version very soon.

And I'm not even a Christian, yet I've always wanted to understand the Bible........

THANK YOU, Eugene!:)

Rating 5 out of 5 - at last a Bible easy to understand
if you want to read the Bible as easily as you would any other wonderful book this is the translation for you. in interesting, easy to read and understand english, this is a really the Bible to get you into reading it. i found myself just continuing to read for the enjoyment of it long after i had looked up a passage or even whole book of this Bible.
it really uses modern day language that does not sacrifice accuracy.
it fascinated me and kept me turning the pages until i just didn't have any more time to read. i expect i will be reading this Bible though and through unlike any other Bible i have read.

you will be amazed at how clear and alive this translation is. a must have for those who want to know the Bible better: by reading it.

Rating 5 out of 5 - A New Breath of Fresh Air!
THE MESSAGE
New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs
Eugene Peterson
(An Amazon book review)

Eugene Peterson, a former professor of Hebrew and Greek, has done a masterful job of recasting the New Testament into contemporary language. In his experience, many people find a numbing familiarity with the earlier translations and have given up or have become confused by cryptic language that no longer speaks to them.

One needs only to crack the book to realize the fresh breath of air that blows through the verses that used to clog the mind with antiquated language.

For example: Matt. 5:48 in the RSV reads "You, therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect." If that isn't a turn off! Listen to Peterson's rendition: "In a word, what I'm saying is, Grow up. You're kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you".

One more example of the verse in Matt. 10:34 in the RSV reads "Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword". Talk about opportunity for misunderstanding! Try Peterson's wording, "Don't think I've come to make life cozy. I've come to cut--make a sharp knife-cut between son and father, daughter and mother, bride and mother-in-law--cut through these cozy domestic arrangements and free you for God."

Those should be sufficient--the book is full of `em. You'll be surprised!
