Currency Grading Guide  

Uncirculated (UNC)

 A bank fresh note, with clean crisp flawless paper surfaces and razor sharp corners and edges. The paper is key to this grade. The corners, edges and surface of the paper cannot be bumped, dinged or crinkled.

About Uncirculated (AU)

 A nearly perfect note with slight evidence of minor handling. The paper will be clean and crisp, the corners will be sharp, but under examination may reveal evidence of a single corner or center fold. Has the appearance of an uncirculated note.

Extremely Fine (XF of EF)

 This note shows evidence of minor circulation. There may be several folds, the corners may show signs of slight roundness, but the note itself will still have considerable crispness and the paper will be clean and fresh.

Very Fine (VF)

 A note with noticeable circulation. There may be several folds both horizontally and vertically and the paper has lost most of its crispness. Still an attractive note.

Fine (F)

 A well circulated note with rounded corners, wrinkles, multiple folds and a rough edge or two. Colors will be good and the paper will be reasonably clean.

Very Good (VG)

 This note will show signs of significant wear, with heavy folds, the paper will have lost its crispness and will be limp. The note may be lightly stained or soiled, the edges will be rough, and there may be a tear in the paper. Colors will be somewhat faded.

Good (G)

 A heavily circulated note. This note will be heavily wrinkled and creased, usually soiled, the colors are dull, the paper limp, and there may be multiple tears or pinholes, or small pieces missing. Generally a "space filler.
