| I have an elderly friend who has reached the point in her life where she feels like she should start selling off some of her antique and other items (and has been using eBay). She has two 1934 $1000 bills and one $500 bill that she purchased a long time ago as gifts, but didn't ever give them. She is now interested in selling them, but isn't sure 1) about their value, 2) whether getting them certified (?) is necessary before selling them and 3) if so, where she should go to get that done where she can be sure that she isn't getting taken . . .and what should the costs for that service be?
I know nothing about these issues but would like to be able to give her some steps that she should take to protect herself and make a sale that will be fair to all parties.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

| Hi Greg,
She should be fine selling those notes on EBay. There shouldn't be any reason to get them certified, unless they're in uncirculated condition, which would bring a nice premium. As far as not getting taken, she could always accept Cashiers Checks or Postal Money Orders only, for payment. PayPal would also be a good choice.
The demand for $500 and $1000 has been strong of late so she'll do well. |
